The legumes subsector has several players who work independently. This has increased duplication of efforts leading to inefficiencies in implementation of activities. It is against this background that the LDT organized a legumes coordination round table meeting. The meeting which was held at Ufulu gardens on 27th August 2018 drew legumes value chain coordination bodies to apprise each other on who is doing what, consolidate  synergize collective efforts and deliberate on pertinent issues affecting the subsector.

Speaking when he opened the meeting the LDT Board Chair, Dr. Geoffrey Kananji emphasized on integration of activities implementation and team work to promote legumes. Among others the meeting resolved sharing of work plans amongst the players with the LDT secretariat. The forum also resolved to hold similar meetings periodically.

The meeting also heard presentation from business Innovation Facility (BIF) on “Facilitating the development and growth of pigeon pea value chain in Malawi.” And “The role of MBS on the certification process for production in Malawi” by the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS).  The meeting also highlighted issues of use Mandela Cork and Inverted Windrows. The meeting further deliberated on the revival of the use of unshelled/inshell groundnuts viz a viz use of shelled groundnuts.
